Bio

Rachel Hansbury enjoys performing in Asheville and beyond. Her current solo project is made up of modern arrangements of folk songs, but she has also received praise for her chamber music performances. She is half of the guitar/voice duo Demeler (www.demelermusic.com) that plays a blend of cafe music and global art song.

Rachel has completed a master’s degree in vocal performance and taught college classes and applied music studies. Currently, she loves studying contemporary use of the voice with master coaches and accomplished artists from Judy Collins to Meredith Monk.

Additionally, she has taken over 600 pictures of her dog on her phone and attempts too many things she sees on British baking shows.

Lessons with Rachel

Rachel treats music instruction as dedicated time for students to be creative and work towards their goals. She believes that the best lessons are like a laboratory: a space to ask questions, try experiments, and engage your curiosity.

Using technique or theoretical knowledge as important tools, Rachel also believes in utilizing lesson times to move towards a specific skill or project, encouraging students to measure their progress (and cheering them on along the way!)
