Invest in a Sound Education

Your investment in Asheville Music School will support music students & teachers, scholarships, and community outreach. You will join a dedicated group of supporters who understand the importance of music in our lives. By giving monthly, you invest what makes sense for you and your budget, and helps us expand our programs throughout the year. Annual giving is great, too!

The importance of music education in our lives cannot be overstated. It helps students emotionally, physically, mentally, and socially. Studying music can mean the difference between a child failing in school to someone who succeeds in life. We know that studying music even helps the adult brain by improving memory and delaying cognitive decline. Music is a vital piece of our humanity, and your support helps AMS enhance the lives of thousands of people.

Music Scholarships

Through the Paul Thorpe Music Education Fund, scores of families who cannot afford music lessons receive scholarships for private lessons and/or musical instruments. Since 2014, our teachers have taught over 3,250 music lessons on reduced tuition. That’s a lot! But, demand for these scholarships is rising. Many more families apply for scholarships each year than we have funds to award. Your generous donations will help us meet this demand.

Formed in October 2020, the Sean Mason Memorial Scholarship will benefit students wishing to study percussion instruments of all kinds, as well as studies in jazz and composition. Sean was long-time Asheville drummer and percussionist who passed away in the summer of 2020.

Sound Education Outreach

Our Sound Education Outreach program helps bring the joy and healing power of music to thousands of the less fortunate in our community. We now have seven outreach ensembles and bands comprised of young musicians playing rock, pop, folk, and fiddle music. These bands rehearse weekly, and perform live on a regular basis. Our Sound Education Outreach ensembles are more in demand than ever, and we want to continue to provide meaningful performance opportunities for our students. Your donations will help us reach this goal.

Professional Educators & Artists

Each year, hundreds of students of all ages and abilities count on AMS for affordable, high quality private music lessons, ensembles, workshops and summer camps. Approximately 40-50 professional teachers count on AMS for an affordable place to teach. We are helping teachers earn a viable living by keeping rent costs low; a savings they are able to pass on to their students.

Next Generation of Asheville Music

Studying music builds confidence and promotes team-building – both of which are crucial life skills. We realize that the positive social impacts of music study are critically valuable to the youth of today.  We help cultivate this through different programs, such as our Suzuki Method teaching studios, our many student bands, and our Fiddle Squad, among others. Your donations help us build and maintain an environment that helps foster and develop the next generation of musicians.

We need your support to help us keep tuition affordable and sustain our growing programs. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today.
