Group Classes
Ukulele Jam
Taught by: Madelyn Ilana
This class is open to continuing ukulele students who have completed either a Level 1 or 2 class with Madelyn in the recent past, or have some experience on their instrument. This mini series will be a chance to continue playing some of our familiar tunes together over the summer, and to review the concepts we have been practicing in our group sessions. Come kick back and jam along!
Women’s Continuing Guitar
Taught by: Madelyn Ilana
This class is open to women with basic proficiency in guitar. Are you wanting to expand your knowledge of music theory? Are you a songwriter or aspiring songwriter looking to share some ideas in a supportive group setting? Are you tired of playing the same familiar chords and want to spice things up a bit? Would you like to learn some new tunes? Join this nourishing container of women to receive support to grow your musical skills in this relaxed Summer mini series with Madelyn Ilana, local singer/songwriter, music teacher, and somatic therapist.
Adult Old-Time Jam
Taught by: Jason McCoy
7-week group class series @ Asheville Music School
Learn the basics of Folk/Old-Time Jam, in the style you might see at Jack of the Wood, Warren Wilson, or the Swannanoa Gathering. You’ll just need to know the basics of how to play your instrument (and you’ll need your instrument too).
Class will emphasize:
- building repertoire of traditional songs and tunes
- learning the roll of folk instruments in context of the ensemble
- folk style “jam” techniques and basic improvisation to blend well with the group based on individual skill level
Novice to intermediate players welcome. This class is not suitable for total beginners.
