SHOW INFO
Now in its tenth year, Asheville Music School’s Sound Effects benefit concert celebrates its biggest show yet. On May 23, AMS brings the country’s premier Steely Dan tribute band Dirty Logic to the outdoor stage at Salvage Station.
On the subject of the importance of music education, Dirty Logic bassist Jake Wolf says, “We are so excited to partner with Asheville Music School for this fundraiser. Music education is really important to everyone in this band, and our individual journeys as musicians have involved much mentoring from the amazing music teachers who helped us develop our craft.”
Wolf continues, “Steely Dan’s music is so musically challenging; none of us would be able to be here performing this music without the help of the music teachers who supported our goals and passions from a young age to be the best musicians we could be.”
The funds raised through this concert will support the Paul Thorpe Music Education Fund, which funds the AMS scholarship and outreach programs, and also to upfit their sound production studio – the AMS Sound Lab. The digital music education component is a bold step forward, and will greatly help the school expand its programming.
Asheville Music School (AMS) is strengthening communities through music education and outreach, while sustaining teachers and musicians in a vibrant music culture. Its 35+ music educators conduct private lessons in a wide variety of music styles and instruments for students of all ages and abilities. AMS also offers ensemble classes, summer camps, group classes, master classes and workshops in a supportive family-friendly environment.
Since its inception as a nonprofit, AMS has awarded more than $100,000 in need-based scholarships to those unable to afford private music lessons. All proceeds from this event will be used to help AMS continue and expand its free performances and group music classes for underserved communities, veterans, seniors, the homeless, people in recovery and those living with disabilities through its Sound Education outreach program.
