Sound Lab Grand Opening – May 8

April 22, 2025 by ryanreardon

Asheville Music School opens the AMS Sound Lab –
the first of its kind in Western NC.

Asheville Music School hosts the grand opening of the AMS Sound Lab on Thursday May 8. As the only studio of its kind in Western NC, this essential upgrade will propel AMS into the modern era of music education, enhancing their ability to provide students with the latest tools and technologies for music production and recording.

Geert Bevin, director of Software Development at Moog Music, helped develop and conceptualize the studio. “The Sound Lab at Asheville Music School is what I dreamt of as a young music student. Having access to professional microphones, recording and mixing equipment with dedicated rooms for the artist and the sound engineer, makes it possible for any AMS student to create professional recordings and to learn how to do so. I’m excited to see and hear what our students will create.”

Audio recording capabilities include solo acts, voiceovers, vocal groups, ensembles of all kinds, and even full-on rock bands. The studio will also incorporate a broad range of software instruments and “in the box” production techniques, enabling students to explore a variety of musical styles and genres, with programs like Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic, and many more.

Asheville Music School invites the public to see the Sound Lab in action, as they record one of their student bands, Dr. Funky Squirrel, in real time. Asheville musician, producer, and founder of IAMAVL, Josh Blake will be engineering and showing off all of the new possibilities at Asheville Music School with the new AMS Sound Lab. Blake will also be teaching classes, for all ages, in electronic music production and recording in the AMS Sound Lab starting in May 2025.
