A quote from the City of Asheville website, as of today, March 13, 2020: “… there have been no positive or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Buncombe County, according to Buncombe County Health & Human Services. The City of Asheville continues to work closely with the County Health Department to coordinate efforts to contain the spread of illness in our community and to promote awareness of those who might be at a higher risk of serious outcomes related to COVID-19.”
“…Mayor Manheimer has issued a statement prohibiting gatherings of more than 100 people on city-owned property.”
For AMS students, parents, and teachers in regards to cancelling lessons or rehearsals due to the Coronavirus:
We respect everyone’s decisions on what is best for them and their family. Please contact your teachers directly about the cancellation of lessons and band rehearsals. We are encouraging all of our teachers some type of online or video lesson for those unable to come to the school.
There has been no notice given from the City of Asheville or Buncombe County about avoiding one-on-one meetings or small group meetings, such as private lessons or band rehearsals. Until then, we will proceed with the necessary sanitation precautions as recommended by the CDC and the WHO, including hand-washing and staying home if you’re feeling ill.
This is an evolving situation and information is often changing. For resources on prevention best practices and news updates, visit Buncombe Ready. Guidance is also posted on the Buncombe County Health & Human Services website.
