AMS Presents: MAR I AM I EP Release Concert

February 4, 2020 by ryanreardon

MAR’s I Am I EP Release Concert presented by Asheville Music School

Asheville Music School is pleased to present one of our fantastic teaching artists at Tina McGuire Theatre at Diana Wortham Center. Mar will be teaming up with other AMS teachers to perform songs from the new EP I Am I.

Here’s the show info:

After a successful year of creation, Mar launches the beginning of the new decade with a brand new single “Together,” and upcoming EP called I am I. Fusing indie, pop, and folk elements from North and South America across English and Spanish lyrics, Mar’s song craft sheds light on the beauty of his two languages, like pieces or fragments coming together, becoming one.

Originally from Lima, Peru, Mar is a non-binary, bilingual, international singer, songwriter, and producer with more than 13 years in the music industry. Mar shares about the making of “Together,” the first single of I Am I with Los Angeles producer Bill Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Avril Lavigne). “Together talks about that unconditional love, the one that shows up every time in spite of the difficulties. It is the ultimate love, the one we all want, search for, and need.” He continues, “A big part of the creative process for I Am I has been allowing myself to be raw, honest, and vulnerable while going through the journey of defining and understanding my identity as non-binary.”

Now residing in Asheville, NC, Mar has put together a fellow-teaching-artist band from Asheville Music School with: Gabrielle Tee (keys), Kylie Irvin (trombone and backing vocals), Andy John (bass, cello and steel guitar), and Phil Alley (guitar), plus local guest percussionist Charles Furtado and violinist Elizabeth McCorvey. They will bring Mar’s raw indie-pop-folk songs to the live stage at the Wortham Center in this musically rich and heartfelt EP release show of I Am I on February 29th, 2020 at 8pm.

Come and join Mar and band in this unique show celebrating collaboration, honesty, and togetherness.
