Hinton Edgerton

Bio

Hinton Edgerton is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer born and raised in Johnston County, NC. Beginning on violin at age 5, he was initially introduced to bluegrass music by his mother, a multi-instrumentalist in her own right. His school district lacked funding for orchestras, so in middle school he enrolled in concert band as a trombonist. This is around the time he started showing interest in rock and heavy metal and began to teach himself guitar, bass, and drums (with his mom’s guidance, of course).

In high school, Hinton participated in his school’s marching band and percussion ensemble, as well as the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble. At 15, he joined his first rock band, Postalgia, on bass guitar. Until graduating in 2014, he continued studying classical with Molly & Dean Olah, jazz with Dr. Gregg Gelb, and bluegrass with Triangle area legend Jan Johansson.

Initially aiming to become a band director, his love for performing and organizing live music took over throughout his time at Appalachian State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Music Industry Studies in 2018. During this time, he studied classical with Dr. Drew Leslie and jazz with Dr. Todd Wright and Rodney Berry.

Since then, Hinton has played numerous instruments with a wide variety of regional artists such as Ashley Heath, Vaden Landers, Melissa McKinney, Alexa Rose, Rebekah Todd, Lua Flora, Chris McGinnis, Chilltonic, Pink Beds, Boat Command, & more. Additionally, he is the sole songwriter, producer, performer, and engineer for his own independent lo-fi rock project, Bill’s Garage.

Lessons with Hinton

Throughout his years of experience teaching private lessons, Hinton has learned that everyone has their own individual method of learning. He will ensure that each student gets exactly what they want from their lesson experience by listening and adapting to their personal goals and interests. Styles taught include rock, pop, blues, funk, jazz, country, bluegrass, classical, & more. Hinton is also proficient in music production and music theory for those interested.

Being able to play a multitude of instruments allows for authentic play-along and jamming possibilities. This can make transitioning into an ensemble setting much easier for less experienced students.
