Private Music Lessons

- Our experienced staff will match you with an appropriate teacher. If you have a specific teacher in mind, let us know on the inquiry form.
- One of our teachers will contact you asap to discuss lessons. Keep an eye on your email and phone.
- After your first lesson, should you decide to continue, we will ask you to become a member of Asheville Music School, which includes annual membership dues of just $65.
Group Classes
Asheville Music Makers – in the AMS Sound Lab

Young Adult Class (Ages 12 – 18)

- Learn skills and techniques for Composition, Music Production, Songwriting, Mixing and Mastering
- Develop knowledge and experience working in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) using music software – softwares used in the class will be Logic, Ableton, Garageband, and Pro Tools
- Classes will focus on composition techniques, music production, songwriting & song structure, live recording, music for multimedia, and all other aspects of making music
- Creative group space for exploring music composition and developing music technology skills.
Requirements
Laptop or iPad with music software. Ability to write and or record music at home.

Asheville Music School is launching a new class for very young learners – ages 0-3! Infants are welcome, too. Join Shalene Hill, beloved swim teacher and founder of Singing Swim School, for a joyful family music experience designed for preschoolers and their caregivers. As a singer with a passion for bringing families together through music, Shalene leads interactive sessions filled with movement songs, rhythm activities, and musical games that get everyone moving, clapping, and singing along.
Each class blends traditional children’s favorites with practical songs for daily routines, helping families create musical moments at home. Bring your little ones for a time of connection, creativity, and pure musical fun! No experience necessary – just come ready to sing, move, and make memories together.

Adult Ukulele Level 2, for Experienced Players
$200
This class is designed for ukulele players who already have a basic understanding of the instrument and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Over the course of 8 weeks, we will explore more advanced techniques, including complex strumming patterns, fingerpicking, and chord progressions. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn new songs across a variety of genres and develop a deeper understanding of music theory as it applies to the ukulele.
Whether you’re looking to expand your repertoire, refine your technique, or simply enjoy playing with others, this class will provide a supportive and engaging environment to help you grow as a musician.
Prerequisite: Previous experience with basic chords, strumming, and tuning.

PAST CLASSES
Adult Rock & Blues “Summer Camp”
Play in a band this summer! Guitar, drums, bass, keys, vocals, and more are all welcome to enroll. Minimum 1-2 months experience on your instrument.
This camp will culminate with a live performance on Friday July 25.

Adult Old-Time Jam
Taught by: Jason McCoy
7-week group class series @ Asheville Music School
Learn the basics of Folk/Old-Time Jam, in the style you might see at Jack of the Wood, Warren Wilson, or the Swannanoa Gathering. You’ll just need to know the basics of how to play your instrument (and you’ll need your instrument too).
Class will emphasize:
- building repertoire of traditional songs and tunes
- learning the roll of folk instruments in context of the ensemble
- folk style “jam” techniques and basic improvisation to blend well with the group based on individual skill level
Novice to intermediate players welcome. This class is not suitable for total beginners.
