We are opening our doors for a week of FREE mini music lessons, open rehearsals, a guitar effects hands-on workshop, a Music Theory 101 workshop/class, and more. Best of all, it’s for music fans of all ages – you don’t even have to be a student!

Tuesday, Sept 5: 5:00-8:00pm Barley’s Kick-Off Concert and Give Back Night*
Head over to Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria (42 Biltmore Ave.) to hear some of our student ensembles perform live, and bring the family! A portion of food sales throughout the day will be donated back to Asheville Music School.
Thu, Sept 7: 6:00-7:00pm- Music Theory 101 Workshop
Music theory is for everyone! Whether you take lessons at AMS or not, you’re welcome to attend this free class. If you’ve ever been curious about what’s behind the music you’ve been playing, singing, or listening to for years, this fun and informational workshop is for you. Open to adults and kids ages 14 and up. Led by AMS teacher Bob Strain.

Middle schoolers working together and playing in a band? Yes! Come see Paradiddles in action. Pop-ins welcome.
Sat. Sept 9: 10:00-12:00pm- AMS Rock Band (aka Minør) rehearsal w/ Alec Fehl
Our longest running outreach ensemble, AMS Rock Band (aka Minør) turns it up and cranks out a big sound. Stop in and catch them in action.
Sat. Sept 9: 12:00-1:30pm- Guitar Effects Hands-On Workshop
So, you’re a young guitarist looking for ways to expand your sound, but you don’t know how to do it. We have a free hands-on workshop for you! For guitar and bass players, this interactive workshop features effects from Caline, Joyo, Boss, Electro-faustus, and more. This is a great opportunity to test drive many of the effects heard in your favorite songs; everything from fuzz pedals to a Theremin! Yes, a Theremin pedal! Open to ages 10 and up.

Also know as Vinyl Crossroads, our all-female ensemble is a veteran of our annual Sound Effects Benefit Concert. They play classic and contemporary pop/rock music. Come check them out as they work out some new music.
