Mrs. Kylie Irvin is a native of Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. and moved to Asheville, N.C. to continue her lifelong journey in music education and performance. Kylie has a diverse musical background in several instruments such as trombone, piano, guitar, voice, and flute. She received her undergraduate degree in music education and studied instrumental conducting for her master’s degree at the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College. Kylie was drawn to the music scene in Asheville and moved there in 2015. Since then, she is grateful to have had many opportunities as a performer and teacher. She has directed rock bands and musical theatre, performed in various ensembles as a vocalist and trombonist, served others with music therapy, and instructed elementary music with Buncombe County Schools. Each new experience has given her insight on how to teach students of all different ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Currently, she is the executive director for Girls Rock Asheville, program director at Asheville Music School. She teaches private lessons in voice and trombone at AMS and at her home studio near Biltmore Village and also instructs a brass band with her husband, Sam Irvin, for the LEAF Schools and Streets Program.
Lessons With Kylie
Kylie takes a holistic approach to voice lessons. She urges her students to look at the study of voice as a process and a way of life. Lessons with Kylie are positive and encouraging so that the singer may be comfortable to explore their own unique voice. She enjoys teaching ear training and theory to provide a deeper understanding of musicianship as required by the student. A typical lesson will involve reinforcement of proper vocal and breathing technique, an exploration of music theory, and working through repertoire that was chosen by the student. She is open and experienced in many styles such as classical, jazz, broadway, and rock, and uses classical and non traditional methods to help students to achieve their musical goals.
“Kylie took time to explore my goals and tailored the lesson strategy to my needs. She was well prepared, skilled and has the credentials to deliver a quality lesson that will challenge you at the pace you desire. As an adult learner, I’d recommend her to anyone looking to get the most out of their lesson time given a busy schedule!”
