We are happy to announce the return of our student string ensemble! Led by Jason McCoy, this ensemble is open to any violin, viola, cello, or bass student age 7 and up, with at least 6 months of playing experience. But, a student’s enthusiasm for playing with others is the only real prerequisite!
The string ensemble will be part of AMS’s Sound Education Outreach program, which consists of student bands, ensembles, soloists, and faculty that perform in the community at places like the ABCCM Veteran’s Quarters, the VA hospital, Chunn’s Cove Assisted Living, and many more, bringing music to those in need. AMS believes that connecting through the universal language of music heals, builds, and strengthens individuals, relationships, and community.
By performing in an ensemble, students get to develop and deepen their musical creativity, skills, and ability to listen to the many layers of sound. Music collaboration is a team-based experience where students share the beauty and joy of many instruments singing together. The repertoire for the ensemble will feature various genres including classical, folk, world and popular music. Students will learn experiential ways of understanding music theory and ear-training, while exploring different rhythms, keys, and sonorities to expand the student’s musical palate.
